After recently expanding their operations, Houghton International – a Newcastle-based electro mechanical engineering specialist – has won a three-year motor maintenance and repair contract at Lynemouth Power Limited in Northumberland.

Houghton International will be responsible for the ongoing repair and maintenance of all motors, generators and electrical rotating equipment during the initial conversion and the continuing operations of the site, because of a successful tender submission.

Houghton International CEO, Michael Mitten, commented: “We are delighted to have been awarded this contract with Lynemouth Power Limited and work is already underway to support the engineers during the transition to biomass.

“We recently enhanced our capacity and testing facilities at our Newcastle-based site and this contract is testament to that investment. Our highly experienced teams have many years’ experience working with this type of kit and I’m confident we will add real value throughout the duration of the contract.”

Currently, Lynemouth Power Limited is being converted to biomass. Once this is complete, the power station will generate 420MW of clean, renewable energy – enough to power 450,000 homes.

By investing £300K in plant and machinery over the past year, the company has been able to improve their performance and keep up with demand. As well as this, Houghton International has opened a large machine repair shop. Investments into the firm have included a new condition monitoring equipment, a winding kit and energy-efficient ovens – helping to improve the range of services the business offers.

Houghton International provides services to a broad range of sectors, which includes power generation, renewables, industrial, oil & gas, marine and rail. The company provides specialist expertise in innovation in the repair, maintenance and life extension of rotating electrical machines.

Founded in 1984, Houghton International has expanded over the last 30 years, developing into a multi-million pound, multinational business. After serving one customer, to working with over 200 customers globally, the company has grown rapidly.
